do you need to make money from your writing?

when i was younger i thought i wanted to make a living from my writing. actually i did for a bit - but that's content writing for clients. they give me the topic and i write. technically i still 'write' blogs and landing pages for my products.

but i've never monetized my blog. i've been writing online for what about 10 years now? i looked into substack but i realized i don't want to monetize my writing.

i am what you call a lazy writer if its not already evident from my less than perfect grammar and stream of consciousness writing. i'd hate to make writing a chore. i just write what's on top of my mind, raw and honest. i don't even edit my posts.

as it is i feel pressure right now, so many strangers have left such wonderful comments on my blog. but i remind myself pressure is a privilege. in fact i get very uncomfortable when someone calls me a writer. i'd hate it if people were paying to read my writing and I published 'bad' blogs - we are often our worst critics.

so i chose freedom over money. hmmm i guess i always have.
